A journey of a thousand treasures begins with a single beep.

The idea of treasure hunting has appealed to me since as far back as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is from the hospital just moments before my birth. I was listening to a faint "repeatable high tone" and thinking, "Oh come on, dig it already!!! That's definitely one of those Digable Tones." or perhaps it was just a heart monitor.😊

In all seriousness though the idea of looking for "treasure" using a metal detector has lingered in my mind since my early childhood and recently, thanks to the wonder of YoutTube, my daughter has also expressed a keen fascination with the hobby. So in the name of good parenting, I purchased a second-hand Bounty Hunter Land Ranger Pro and the rest is history as they say. (Who is this "they" anyway?)

I will be sharing my journey as a detectorist, my learnings and information about the items we find, in my style with a little humour thrown in for added flavour.

I will also be using this blog as a creative outlet. Recently I have suffered from a burning desire to do something with these creative juices that have started bubbling. I fear they may start boiling over if I don't put them to good use.

All of this has come in a time that has provoked much soul-searching. South Africa and most of the world has been living in a state of lockdown due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic. My family and I live in the countryside on a smallholding with the wonderful privilege of being able to roam the farmlands without the worry of coming into contact with anyone.

I hope you enjoy reading these blogs as much as I enjoy writing them. We live in a beautiful part of South Africa and I will be sure to include as many breath-taking scenic photos' as I possibly can.

And on that note...

The sun rises over the sugarcane fields.

Yours sincerely,

- Terry
